Estates Strategy

The Practice has provided wide-ranging advice on the preparation and implementation of estate strategies for a number of public sector clients. The estates with which we have been involved are diverse, with a number involving extensive areas of land and others confined largely to urban sites. Invariably our remit has been to maximise proceeds of disposal and to minimise the occupational costs of assets remaining within the estate.

Examples involve the following estates:

Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

The Practice has been involved with restructuring horticultural research within the UK and property issues affecting the Central Science Laboratory Estate. High value and complex planning issues have been addressed and the satisfactory conclusion of many of these matters has already led to the realisation of significant development value.

Natural Environment Research Council

The Estate is very diverse, occupying over 50 sites across the UK. There are many constituent Institutes of the NERC and the Institute of Oceanographic Sciences has been completely restructured, which involved the closure of 6 sites and the establishment of a new research facilities in Lancaster and in Liverpool. We are currently involved in the process of construction of the new Welsh Environment Centre in Bangor, North Wales. The work will involve the seeking of advantageous planning consents, lease restructuring, surrenders, disposals and the minimisation of costs in respect of retained property.
